The Brooklyn Diggers are a collective of artists, activists and historians who aim to expose ignored histories. On October 25, 1861 the Keel of the USS Monitor was laid. To celebrate this day, the Diggers recreated Greenpoint Brooklyn circa 1861. The day imagined Greenpoint when it was a national center of trade and shipbuilding. The event included a cardboard sculpture of the USS Monitor, smell boxes, historic gastronomy, photo booth, story, nautical knot tying and music. The event took place on October 22,2011.
